Mr Steve Walker

National Health Service Litigation Authority

Steve Walker has been the Chief Executive of the National Health Service Litigation Authority since 1996. In that capacity, he is responsible for the defence of all significant clinical negligence litigation against the NHS both under the Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts and the Existing Liabilities Scheme. The Litigation Authority also has specific training and risk management roles within the NHS. Before that his work had been exclusively in defence litigation in the insurance industry and the public sector, with involvement in matters as diverse as Murphy -v- Brentwood DC, Pindown, and the Hillsborough litigation. He was also Honorary Adviser to the Disaster Funds created following the events at Kings Cross, Clapham Junction, and Kegworth/M1. He has written and spoken extensively on liability generally and, more recently, medical negligence in particular.
